The Power of Blogging for Wedding Photographers

Blogging feels like extra work. But for wedding photographers, it’s the single most effective long-term marketing strategy you can invest in.
Why Blogging Works
Every blog post is a new page on your website. Every new page is a chance to rank for a specific search term. Over time, a photographer with 50 blog posts has 50 chances to appear in Google results. A photographer with 2 has... 2.
What to Blog
Every wedding you deliver should become a blog post. The formula: - Title: "[Couple]’s [Season] Wedding at [Venue], [City]" - 200–400 words telling the story - 20–40 curated images - Mention the venue, city, vendors, and season naturally - Link to your pricing or contact page
The Compound Effect
A blog post you write today can bring in inquiries 2 years from now. A couple searching "Greenfield Estate wedding photographer" in 2028 will find your 2026 blog post and reach out.
This is traffic you don’t pay for. It compounds over time. The more you blog, the more search terms you rank for, the more inquiries come in without lifting a finger.
How Often
Aim for 2–4 posts per month. Every wedding you deliver is content ready to publish. If you shoot 30 weddings a year, that’s 30 blog posts. More than enough.
Common Mistakes
**Too few images.** A blog post with 5 images won’t rank as well as one with 25–40. Google sees image-rich content as higher quality.
**No text.** A gallery with zero words gives Google nothing to index. Write at least 200 words per post.
**Generic titles.** "John & Jane’s Wedding" tells Google nothing. Include the venue name and city every time.
The ROI
One well-written blog post that ranks can bring in 3–5 inquiries per year. At a $4,000 average booking, that’s $12–20K from a single post you spent 30 minutes writing.
There is no ad platform that gives you that return over time. Blog consistently and your future self will thank you.
